It’s always recommended to ensure your own privacy on social media apps and websites, especially Instagram. Instagram private accounts: Everything you need to know
Even after you have set your Instagram account to private, Instagram says that private posts your share to social networks may still be visible publicly which is dependent on your privacy settings on those social networks. Instagram says that your private posts shared on Twitter may still remain visible to people who can see your Tweets. Once you have set your Instagram account to private, people will have to send you a follow request to see your posts, your followers list or your following list.
Requests to follow you by others appear in the Activity menu. From there, you can decide whether you want to approve them or ignore them. If some user was already following you before you made your account private and you no longer want them to see your posts, you can either block them or remove them from your followers’ list.
